Editor's Welcome

Looking Through the Engagement Lens

The PhilanthropyNYU Editorial Board joins me in welcoming you to our Fall 2012 Issue focusing on the topic of Engagement.

What is engagement and why have we devoted our Fall Edition to this topic? As a Master of Fundraising and Grantmaking student, I have repeatedly seen how important it is to keep your donor base engaged in your mission and your organization. From the small, one-person manned organization that struggles to gain an audience and supporters, to the large, far-reaching organization that needs to stay relevant to donors and continue to reach new ones, engagement is addressed on an ongoing basis.

This issue offers a range of perspectives with the common thread that every organization develops its own way of addressing the challenge. The evolving social media environment offers some interesting new opportunities as you will read in our interview with Twitter’s Claire Diaz Ortiz.

Our hope is that this issue prompts additional discussion and we welcome your comments and questions. Email us at philanthropynyu@gmail.com

And finally, thank you to all of our contributors for helping to bring this important issue to the forefront through your observations and commentary.

Best Wishes,
Helen Couniakis Rallakis
